Hotel Mount Batten

Lawrence Rd, Plymouth PL9 9SJ, UK – 01752 484660

Brilliant food and a lovely spot. Great for a quick drink or lovely for a sit down meal. Not a massive menu, but what is available is very nice indeed.

Great value food, served quickly and usually with a smile. A well stocked bar and good coffee (inc. decaff) Great views and easy to cross the water to Plymouth's historic Barbican via water taxi. Alternatively, just take a short stroll along Mountbatten Breakwater or around the marina.

Premier Inn Plymouth Sutton Harbour

28 Sutton Rd, Plymouth PL4 0HT, UK – 0871 527 8882

Great service for the duration of my stay. Lovely, helpful staff greeted you as you walked through the door and breakfast was cooked perfectly and quickly I must add. The room was clean and everything worked as it should, brilliant for a standard Premier Inn, but the only downside I can see to my stay was the squeeky bed. Other than that I can not fault the service I received when I was there.

Hotel lovely. Everyone from desk to cleaners cannot do enough for you..nothing too much trouble. Noisy guests above us but staff acted on this straight away. Handy for Barbican and town centre. Hotel spotless.

The Grenville Hotel

82 - 84 Grenville Rd, Plymouth PL4 9PZ, UK – 01752 261590

New vibe after a refurbish, new management too. A very fresh and friendly place especially when compared to its previous local reputation. Love it.

Brilliant place for a drink or to watch a band. Many good night's in the Grenville. Place looks amazing. Staff and locals very friendly. offers competitive rates for any type of hotel, from small independent hotels to a five star luxury ones. The site is available in 24 languages and offers over 71000 hotels in 71 countries. Could be useful for you. There are of course several such sites.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Odd Wheel Pub

Knighton Rd, Wembury PL9 0JD, UK – 01752 863052

Stopped here without plan, very impressed. Good range of beers and Gins, which were enjoyed with a Sunday lunch on the sun drenched terrace. The roast was delicious and plenty of it. Seems like a popular place for the locals and travellers alike. There were 6 in our group, and we all enjoyed our food. Toilets nice and clean too! The owners were friendly and helped steer me to the right ale for my Hubby. The young waitresses were all pleasant and helpful too. Basically we had a great stop and left very happy indeed.

Brilliant! Dropped in with my family for a meal. Warmly welcomed, and treated like like kings. Great food and great atmosphere. Liver and bacon beautiful, followed by the lemon posset! Oh happy day!

The Kings Arms

The Quay, Plymouth, Oreston PL9 7NE, UK – 01752 491131

We have visited the King's Arms on several occasions with family and friends. Without exception the food has always been first class. Good service and enjoyable surroundings. Have already booked for another day!!

Lovely pub with great ambiance. Very light and airy helpful and attentive staff and a brilliant pool table. Didn't try the food but from the look on the faces of the diners I am sure it is fab !

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

Mountbatten Guest House

7 Westway, Hooe, Plymouth PL9 9RL, UK – 01752 515592

Steve and Sue are just fantastic nothing is too much bother, the house is furnished to a very high standard, the breakfast is super, they have no problem in catering for veggies !! We at Selby Aquanauts have been staying with Steve and Sue for a few years now, and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.

Premier Inn Plymouth City Lockyers Quay

1 Lockyers Quay, Plymouth PL4 0DX, UK – 0871 527 8880

Went here because the Mrs had a voucher. And was very pleasantly surprised. I opted for the chicken wings and double steak burger. The Mrs had mushrooms and then a rib eye steak. And neither of us could find fault in anything. It all tasted great. The service was also great. Attentive but not in your face. Would definitely recommend and will go again.

Usual Premier Inn, reception, restaurant, rooms. We had a top floor room with nice harbour views. Approx 20 mins walk into town & theatres etc. Parking is £5 a night.

The Boringdon Arms

Boringdon Terrace, Plymouth PL9 9TQ, UK – 01752 402053

Great little pub. Has been refurbished to a high standard, but unlike lots of other pubs, it has kept its own identity and original features. Beer, real ale, always very good and well kept. Only had a pub lunch snack which I was very happy with. What food I have seen ordered by others looks fine. It's on the South West coastal path and dogs are very welcome. My dog always gets a treat and is also very pleased to visit. Well worth a visit.

A local pub with good ale and average food. Live music and the odd local festival on a coastal walking route.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Bovisand Lodge Holiday Park

Bovisand, Plymouth PL9 0AA, UK – 01752 403554

This is a beautiful spot. The owners keep it spotless and well maintained. It’s a wonderful place for a young family just metres from a great beach for paddling and rockpooling and superb views. There’s a great indoor pool on site that the kids love, a play area and wildlife and walks. We spend hours building dams, swimming, taking in the views or just relaxing. Highly recommended.

Becalmed at Bovisand

37 Bovisand Park, Down Thomas, Plymouth PL9 0AE, UK – 07785 900401

A beautiful, clean, quiet and well equipped chalet. with a decent sized double bedroom and a small single alongside, both at the rear. The double bed was comfortable (I did not try the single). The chalet faces west across the bay, with tremendous views, good for sitting on the patio in the afternoon and evening. I stayed a week last autumn and found it very peaceful. There is a very small shop and daytime cafe a little walk along the main path, or very nice walks a little further afield, to the village of Down Thomas or along the coast. In high season there is a bus to Plymouth centre from the nearby fort car park, otherwise you need a car but can go into Plymouth via the Mountbatten ferry, where there is free parking. One highlight was a badger who comes along looking for food each evening round about dusk. Neighbours told me that at times they have had as many as 5 badgers walking along in front of their chalets and squabbling over food. You can go down steps to the beach, but there is not a lot for children beyond the toddler stage to do. There is a lot of sea traffic to watch, including frequent Royal Navy ships - there are binoculars in the chalet. We were treated to an evening's entertainment of a naval training exercise in the bay, including an Indian navy ship, and featuring helicopters landing on the decks of pitching ships and taking off again, and men overboard being rescued. At night the bay is alive with flashing lights indicating mysterious shipping hazards, and the Eddystone lighthouse can be seen in all but the worst weather.
